After paying several thousands of dollars on the root canals on my upper teeth, my dentist told me that they had to be pulled. He told me that the dentist that did the work didn't do it properly and that all of the teeth were infected. After I collected myself, we started discussing the cost of the extraction procedure and the cost of the dentures. I knew I couldn't pay for all of that out of my pocket and he explained the dangers of allowing dental infections to fester. I quickly learned about financing dental procedures. When someone you know ends up arrested and behind bars, and you want to help get them out, you are going to need to pay their bail. Here is what you should do if someone you know is arrested in Michigan.
#1 Find Out Where They Are
The first thing that you need to do is find out where they are. If you were there when they were arrested, you can ask the arresting officer where they are being taken. If you were not present when they were arrested, you may have to do some calling around. You are going to need to know their booking number and jail location in order to bail them out of jail. You are also going to need to know their name and their birthday as well.
#2 Call an Attorney
The next thing you should do is call a defense attorney. A defense attorney can contact the jail and find out what their bond is set at. They may be able to work to negotiate a lower bond. Many defense attorneys work with or can recommend you to bail bond company that will help you secure a bond for your loved one. These recommendations often allow you to get a discount.
#3 Contact A Bail Bond Agent
The agent will actually help you through the bail process. To start with, you will have to pay the bail bond agent a set free. Many bail bond agencies offer payment plans so you don't have to have all the cash up front.
After that, you are going to need to set up collateral for the bail. You don't have to give up the property to the bail agent, but you need to show that you can pay the amount in full if the defendant were to jump bail. They will accept a wide range of items for collateral. They will accept anything from electronics, car deeds, house deeds, and even stocks and bonds. Make sure to provide proof and copy of these funds. The bail agent will then verify the funds or source of collateral.
#4 Go to the Jail
Then, you will go to the jail with the bail bond agent. The bail bond agent will post the bail for your loved one or friend, and they will be released from jail. From there, you will just have to pay off the fee to the bond company and if your friend or family member shows up for their court appearances, you will be given the proof of collateral back once the proceedings wrap up.
